29 May How to Admit Yourself into a Mental Health Hospital
While many people may never need to spend time in a hospital or treatment center for a mental health condition, there are times when it may be the best decision. It takes great courage to admit yourself into a mental health hospital, recognizing that being open to help for the sake of your psychiatric health is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength.
The first step is to take a look at mental health hospitals in Dallas that fit your needs, helping you discover what will be the best option to help get you back to the best health possible. There may be many different types of facilities that range in scope in the type of the care they provide. For example, some facilities offer 24-hour in-patient care, while other facilities may offer partial hospitalization such as therapeutic services during the day.
It’s important to find a hospital that will provide you with the level of care that you need. At Sundance Behavior Hospital, we offer four levels of care, including adult inpatient treatment and adult outpatient treatment, using an integrative approach that works with each patient on an individual basis.
Once you have an idea of where you would like to go to receive treatment, contact the hospital, either by telephone or in person. This will help you make sure they are the right fit, and they can direct you on the exact check-in procedures for that hospital. This is also a great time to ask any questions you have, or voice any concerns that you may be thinking about before being checked in to the hospital.
When you admit yourself, there are a few personal belongings you should bring along with you to help make you stay a positive one. You can bring up to three pairs of clothes as well as one pair of pajamas and three sets of undergarments for your stay. You may also bring unopened hygiene products for your stay, which can be used during the designated hygiene times. These should be travel sized and should not contain alcohol.
It is highly recommended that you do not bring any valuables or miscellaneous personal belongings, such as your cell phone or jewelry. If you do have these with you, they will be locked in our safe and returned to you at the time of discharge.
Upon your admission to the hospital, you will likely undergo a complete physical examination which will help our team get a complete picture of your overall health. This information will be used by the treatment team to come up with a plan for your health and well-being.
